    Problems with cortisone

    Vitiligo No Cortisone

Cortisone is no more effective as a long term treatment for Vitiligo*

    · Steroids may help initially for a short time
    · Steroid lead to relapse of Vitiligo
    · Steroids treated relapse is more severe, more complex
    · Steroids treated vitiligo is more difficult to treat
    · It is wise to avoid steroid during any stage of Vitiligo
    · Steroid puts you to the vicious cycle of dependency
    · Steroid dependents have to come out of the vicious cycle

(*Observations based on a statistical study of over 350 cases of Vitiligo at our center, who were earlier treated with steroids.)

This article has been written on the basis of our extensive experience in treating a large number of cases of vitiligo and other diseases which are otherwise treated conventionally using cortisone. This is also supported by practice and experience of numerous reputed homeopathic professionals.

Also, as per the medical philosophy of homeopathy, cortisone in any form (oral, systemic or local) is not a wise option for treating Vitiligo. Cortisone is an immuno-suppressive measure which helps but it also leads to an inevitable relapse in most cases after stopping its the use.

It has been observed in daily practice, that, use of cortisone produces dramatic result initially. However, its influence is quite superficial, as the vitiligo spots (or psoriasis or Lichen Planus eruptions) tend to  relapse  (more aggressively) at times.

The routine use of cortisone is not recommended due to the following observations:

Notes about Tacrolimus, Protopic and Elidel:

Beware, topical creams could cause cancer:
Most people realized the after effects of topical steroids. Then came new products like  Pimecrolimus and Tacrolimus (by different brand names) which were marketed aggressively all over the world as a new, magical and safe treatment for eczema, psoriasis and vitiligo. However, recent studies has suggested that such topical creams have produced 28 cases of skin cancer amongst children. On January 20, 2005 the FDA declared that Protopic will have to bear a "black box" warning indicating possible cancer risks. (Source: 1, 2

    1. It helps only superficially and temporality
    2. Stopping of the steroids eventually leads to the reappearance of vitiligo spots or eruptions
    3. The eruption, which relapses after the use of steroids, are more resistant than before

    4. The relapse  of disease (vitiligo or lichen planus or psoriasis or eczema) following stopping cortisone is often difficult to manage with milder medicines.
    5. The extent of eruptions increase after stopping the steroids in most cases
    6. Cortisone produce side effects by hampering the immunity, lowering resistance, disturbing hormonal cycle, etc.

    7. Cortisone leads to dependency

Let us talk a bit more about suppression with cortisone. As we understand, Vitiligo is just an expression of some inner disharmony. Cortisone simply masks the eruption without treating the inner cause. Such a measure is understood to be suppressive. Homeopathy is against any use of local cream for treating any skin disease in general and Vitiligo in particular. Non-suppressive treatment is considered superior for any medical disorder.
